Well, it seems I cannot get any of the women I know to come out in this weather and go do something. Not that I can blame them, I do have a tendency for some dates to kind of turn out a bit off the beaten track, like taking a sailboat out just before a tidal wave hits, if you know what I mean. But I do have fun! And most the time my dates have all been kinda cool with some of the crazy stuff that happens around me. And, although not always, wound up waking up to my date cooking breakfast, usually wearing my shirt and little else! I do have to admit though. I do have good taste in women. Intelligent, easy to talk to, not yappy, and do so look good on my arm! Well what do you expect, I told you I was a bit of a chauvinist. Which reminds me, I need to go down to my local used book store soon get something else to read, I’m in the mood for a western.
One of my favorite areas of reading are of the Native American stories as is the most recent book that I have just finished, entitled Black Elk Speaks, as told through John G. Neihardt (Flaming Rainbow) by Nicholas Black Elk. It has been named one of the best spiritual books of the 20th century and I’m not surprised because it has been an excellent read.
This is a story of the Lakota visionary and healer Nicholas Black Elk and his people during the nineteenth century during the time that the white settlers started invading their homeland and wiping out the buffalo. It’s a story of their resistance that is very beautifully told and I would urge anyone who is interested in this type of history to pick up a copy and learn and enjoy as I have been.
One of my friends and business partners called me to see if I wanted to take a collection of toy cars off his hands. He said he’d bought out one of those storage bins to get at the old mahogany furniture that was stored there and he came across a box just packed with Hot Wheels cars. At first I wasn’t interested until I remembered something about Hot Wheels with red lines around the tires from the 60’s and 70’s, and how they were pretty hot little collectibles with the potential to generate a boatload of income. So i asked him about the wheels on the cars and he confirmed that they all had red lines on them and that they all had metal bottoms. Most were from Hong Kong, the US and Mexico and I think he said Malaysia too. needless to say, I told him I’d take the whole lot off his hands. I won’t say how much I gave him for them, but I will tell you this, I’ve spent more money on a night on the town then I paid for this little present from my old buddy in the furniture trade!
One of my business partners suggested we find a new style of marketing some of our gear. Perhaps even diversifying a bit so as to maximize our customer base and broaden our prospective clientele by opening up new avenues of revenue. How about that, I think I could be a poet of sorts if I keep rhyming my sentences like that. Can you tell I haven’t had a lot of sleep lately? Well, between keeping long hours working the trade shows, and even longer nights getting worked over by one good looking woman after another, I should be a bit tired out. Maybe I should just sleep on it awhile. Which reminds me, I’m going to have to get a new mattress. The one I have now makes my back hurt something awful at times.
I consider myself to be a very lucky man in the fact that I have been blessed with two very healthy parents that are still basically independent even though they are both in their 80’s. And the fact that we live pretty close to each other, less than a hour’s drive, has turned into such a positive thing for us all. My other siblings have all moved out of state and we don’t see each other near as much as we all would like, but when we do manage to get everyone together we make the best of it and enjoy the moment as well as we can.
There was talk a few months back about the possibility of trying to get us all together to celebrate Father’s Day, but things just didn’t work out so well and we had to pull the plug on that idea.
So, Father’s Day is coming up real soon, I guess I better start looking around, thank God for the Internet, it will make shopping a whole lot easier that having to go out and dealing with traffic and the weather and all that other bothersome nonsense that goes along with shopping in the real world.
