Now that was one of the quickest turnovers on any gear I’d picked up on a hunch! I’m talking about the beer cans, (dome top beer cans at that), with near perfect labels and litho, all of them had the tops, except for one I believe, really hard to remember what all brands they were I had them for so short a time. I actually sold all but one of them to the same guy, the very first guy on my list as a matter of fact. I told him what I had happened upon on the way back and let him know That I knew what they might be worth to a high end collector like himself, but I also told him what I paid for them and if he came up with a fair proposal and an honest figure, well, then we could do business! We met, he loved them, he offered more than the figure I’d had in mind. I accepted , he took them all but the one. Reason he didn’t want it was that there were two alike and he only needed the one. Now I hear of another dealer getting a load of red-line hot wheels cars. They’re supposed to be worth a small chunk of serious change. I really got to get myself a book on them I guess.
One of my friends and business partners called me to see if I wanted to take a collection of toy cars off his hands. He said he’d bought out one of those storage bins to get at the old mahogany furniture that was stored there and he came across a box just packed with Hot Wheels cars. At first I wasn’t interested until I remembered something about Hot Wheels with red lines around the tires from the 60’s and 70’s, and how they were pretty hot little collectibles with the potential to generate a boatload of income. So i asked him about the wheels on the cars and he confirmed that they all had red lines on them and that they all had metal bottoms. Most were from Hong Kong, the US and Mexico and I think he said Malaysia too. needless to say, I told him I’d take the whole lot off his hands. I won’t say how much I gave him for them, but I will tell you this, I’ve spent more money on a night on the town then I paid for this little present from my old buddy in the furniture trade!
One of my business partners suggested we find a new style of marketing some of our gear. Perhaps even diversifying a bit so as to maximize our customer base and broaden our prospective clientele by opening up new avenues of revenue. How about that, I think I could be a poet of sorts if I keep rhyming my sentences like that. Can you tell I haven’t had a lot of sleep lately? Well, between keeping long hours working the trade shows, and even longer nights getting worked over by one good looking woman after another, I should be a bit tired out. Maybe I should just sleep on it awhile. Which reminds me, I’m going to have to get a new mattress. The one I have now makes my back hurt something awful at times.
I consider myself to be a very lucky man in the fact that I have been blessed with two very healthy parents that are still basically independent even though they are both in their 80’s. And the fact that we live pretty close to each other, less than a hour’s drive, has turned into such a positive thing for us all. My other siblings have all moved out of state and we don’t see each other near as much as we all would like, but when we do manage to get everyone together we make the best of it and enjoy the moment as well as we can.
There was talk a few months back about the possibility of trying to get us all together to celebrate Father’s Day, but things just didn’t work out so well and we had to pull the plug on that idea.
So, Father’s Day is coming up real soon, I guess I better start looking around, thank God for the Internet, it will make shopping a whole lot easier that having to go out and dealing with traffic and the weather and all that other bothersome nonsense that goes along with shopping in the real world.
Had an outrageous date tonight! The lady and I went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant to start off the evening after which we had originally planned to take in the local off Broadway style theatre. What really happened after our meal, which was outstanding by the way, was to get soaked to the bone by a sudden downpour from an unexpected rain storm! During our shower, courtesy of Mother Nature, my date became a bit flustered and insisted that I take her back to my place so that she could get out of her wet clothes and into something dry. Somewhat surprising to me because The only thing I have for her to wear would be one of my robes and I wasn’t to sure of what it was she had in mind. needless to say, by evening’s end, this lovely woman had only my best interests at heart. After battling wind and rain to make it home she told me of the one sure thing attracted her to me, my laughter! The next day she bid me farewell as she was off to the airport for her flight to Paris France, (I neglected to mention that she is a stewardess on a major airline), the last words out of her pretty little mouth were, ” darling, the wind blew, the crap flew, and I’m only here for a day or two!”, to which she was gone. Such a lovely girl that one.
