Intellectual Stimulation and Participation on The Radio

Some of my friends are lawyers and I know they all laugh at the lawyer jokes we pass around from time to time. I used to have a collection of them and break them out during the radio show breaks. I’m trying to think of one appropriate to call them up and share with them online Saturday night. Here’s one I told recently.

Question: What’s the difference between a trampoline and a lawyer?
Answer: You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline!

Today I took a drive up-country to see an attorney friend and passed by the old AM radio station where I used to produce a weekend talk radio show about politics and current events. Boy, that brought back a lot of memories! Now I can get the same intellectual stimulation and participate in political discussions by reading blogs and making comments, or by finding discussion forums like the one at ArgueWithEveryone.com. If you like political blogs then you should come by any Saturday morning and see what I’ve got on my mind worth sharing with the other forum participants on that particular day. They can all get pretty fired up and it’s a lot of fun.

Blogs Are Everywhere These Days

I’m a big fan of blogs. Any web site that has one when I’m there for other reasons catches my attention and I will usually click over to the blog and read what they have to say. The advantage of most blogs is that they are written in people’s real words and the blogs often reflect more emotion and opinion than the sterile ad content on the rest of the site. One blog that keeps me coming back is written by Mark Cuban. He is a very interesting man and what impresses me the most is that he is so willing to share his thoughts and opinions in a very constructive way. He writes about a variety of business topics.

The latest posts on Mark’s blog have been about the economy and the stock market, and he proposes concrete changes to existing laws and policies. His writing style is plain English and it’s a quick, interesting read. I feel fortunate to have come across his blog – he’s already taught me several things and I look forward to reading more. I’m so glad that the election is over and done with so that people can start talking and blogging about other things that are going on and are important.

Step away from the computer when…..

You should know that it is time to step away from the typing of your blog when:

  • You’re tired
  • You’re happy hour went a few drinks too long
  • Writer’s block has set in
  • You have a headache
  • Experiencing a period of high stress
  • No inspiration
  • You are starving and your stomach is growling loudly
  • You’re angry, sad, or just plain grumpy
  • No topic grabs your interest
  • You’re trying to squeeze in too little time to produce quality work
  • You’re watching the kids and trying to write a post
  • Your passion is taking a day off
  • Your partner is trying to tell you about their day and they demand eye contact
