Legally Speaking

The radio show that I used to produce is still on the air. Legally Speaking is broadcast live every Saturday night on WLAC 1510 AM, from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

The attorney who I worked with the most and became good friends with was the anchor and show host, but he left the show a few years ago and I left shortly right after. I still like the other guys, but the show is just not the same without the anchor.

They changed the format slightly – each of the lawyers on the show plays an instrument and sings old country songs as the show cuts to commercial or comes back from station breaks. They aren’t exactly great musicians, but I think it helps make these guys seem a little more human and approachable to listen to them sings and play guitar for a few minutes every hour. As I said they aren’t exactly great musicians but thank the good lord that they have enough talent not to chase away their listeners. They really took a chance with that path.

Even though I don’t work with them any more, I try to listen to the show if I’m home on a Saturday night and think to tune in the radio to their show. I always learn something new about the law and the legal system and it’s good to hear familiar voices, too.

The Busy Month Of March

It is hard to believe that the month of March is quickly approaching us. March is a busy month, besides the beginning of spring and all that goes along with that. If the groundhog was right we are to expect an early spring which I don’t know of anyone that isn’t happy to hear that.

The month of March brings a ton of birthdays to friends and family. I always know that I will be broke in the month March because of all the birthdays. And I’m still trying to recover from Christmas just a few months ago. Right now I am looking at various electric guitars for sale online to give to my nephew on Easter which is in March this year, along with Daylight Savings Time, Saint Patrick’s Day and if I remember correctly Palm Sunday.

I will be seeing my nephew at the family Easter dinner and since I didn’t get to hook up with him over the Christmas holiday season I figured I’d make it up to him on Easter. He is a good kid, the oldest and the one that seems like he just might make a contribution in this world some day. Guess he is really my favorite. I was there when he was born and baby sat him up until they up and moved away to Colorado a few years ago. It will be good to see them all again. I will pull him aside of course and present him with it in private, so as not to draw a lot of attention from all the others that will be there that day.

Auto Lift From Best Buy Auto Equipment

Most people I know are getting excited about getting money back here real soon from having done the yearly chore of filing our tax returns. From what I hear is that a good amount of this money is going straight to credit card companies that must really rake it in and totally love this time of year when so many people are using their tax money to keep them all in business and in the red.

My brother-in-law just got his check and went immediately online to order the products that he has been anxious to get going so that he can start bringing in some more money through his “fix it shop” that he has built out back. It takes money to make money, there is no doubt about that. It will be great when he gets the auto lift that he ordered from best buy auto equipment. He has been on their mailing list for the last couple of years and has done a good amount of business with them and keeps coming back for more, so they must be doing something right. He isn’t known for being quiet and easy-going, actually he can be a real pain in the neck at times, but a good guy with a good heart that keeps my sister and their kids happy.

Once he gets this car lift delivered, installed and ready to go, I believe that he will start doing more side jobs that he has turned down until he gets this much-anticipated auto lift. I know that I’ll be turning to him for some work that he has been promising me from all the help I have provided for him during this whole process of getting his shop built and ready for business.

The Best Place for Food and Fun

My first experience at a Dicks Last Resort was a rip-roaring, rowdy time with good food, plenty of cold beer, and a wait staff that instigated all kinds of fun and mischief throughout the crowd. It was so much fun I couldn’t wait to go back.

Alas, the first Dick’s Last Resort was in San Antonio and I haven’t been back to that one. But I have been to others and they have all been just as much fun. I’ve been to the Dicks in Chicago, which is up at Navy Pier. I’ve also been in the one in Myrtle Beach, and that one had a rascal for a waiter and even the manager was in on the pranks and jokes.

If you ever have the chance and want to have so much fun you can hardly stand to leave, go to a Dick’s Last Resort. There are some people who take their kids to this place, but I promise you will have a better time if you keep the group to adults only. The jokes and the banter is above the heads of the little people and you don’t want to be distracted or inhibited now, do you?

Mortgage Broker Training

It is so refreshing to hear some good, exciting positive news for once. I swear it seems like all I hear is sob stories from friends and family, co-workers and neighbors, along with all the other people who I come in contact with while I’m going about my daily business. Believe me I have had my own issues along the way as well. It’s just that it gets to me sometimes being surrounded by such pain and misery as what is being experienced since this economy crisis just keeps ruining people’s lives in so many ways, as you well know.

Once in a great while I will run across someone who has just gotten married and are buying a new home or having their baby and seem to be healthy and happy, weathering the storm fairly well with a big genuine smile on their face. Today while I was standing in line at the bank, I over heard the bank teller telling the customer in front of me about how excited she was over finding out that her 22-year-old step-son has finally “snapped out of it” as she put it and has been seriously looking into training to be mortgage broker something that he can do from home online. I have been going to this bank for so long that I know all the good folks that work there, so I didn’t feel bad about over hearing their conversation and having her (the bank teller) elaborate a bit more of her good news while taking care of my transactions. I just loved the look of happiness and pride on her face and wanted to savor every moment of that glow, because those types of faces have been few and far between these past 6 years.

Unfortunately there is still no light at the end of the tunnel which would provide so many people with some kind of hope.
