Preparing The Yard For Spring

I am going to head out to Home Depot and Lowe’s this morning and try to beat the crowds. I’m sure the place will be packed with people who just realized that Spring is really close at hand and their yards and gardens need some work to get ready for the spring, summer, and fall growing season. I’m sure the danger of frost is not gone yet, it is only the middle of February. I wouldn’t even think of planing anything as of yet, but there is a lot of work that needs to get done before even thinking of putting anything in the ground yet.

I have to buy some weed and seed, plus a spreader as mine has left my garage for some reason. I want to buy some bags of topsoil and spread it around the yard to fill in a few holes and trenches created by moles, digging dogs and water runoff. I need a new rake and some leather work gloves.I might splurge and buy a new chainsaw if they have something for a good price. And, of course, the seed packets are all out on the shelves that I will take a gander at. I think I will try to do some green beans and pumpkins this year, in addition to the green peppers and jalapeno that grew well last year.

Havahart offers Earth Friendly products on line

My folks still live in the house that I grew up in, and the old neighborhood hasn’t changed a whole heck of a lot in all of these years, it is still a nice quiet place where everyone knows everyone else, they both love it there and I can’t imagine them ever living anywhere else.

My father has had to deal with a variety of critters that come into his backyard, mainly due to his gardens and the pond, a nice place for these wild animals to come for food and water. He has come up with several different types of traps and cages throughout the years and I’m thinking on purchasing him a brand new one from a company that I have found online on the Internet called Havahart, that sell these types of traps and cages, that are supposed to be more earth friendly and a more humane way to catch and trap the type of animals that my father has to deal with more and more it seems.

They also sell rabbit repellent sprays and the like, that are advertised as “Organic GREEN” products. Rabbits that are finding their way into his vegetable garden more and more.  Anything that will help the situation that my Dad is getting a bit too old to deal with as much as he has had to these past few years. I like the fact that these products are better for the animals and the environment, that is a major plus in my book!

Gardens Are Producing

The past few days I have come home with a bag or basket full of home grown garden veggies from all kinds of folks all over town, that are being overwhelmed with all of their harvesting efforts. I love this time of year, there is nothing like a nice tomato sandwich on a hot summer afternoon, with lots of mayo and a cold glass of milk!
