Nitty Gritty PCs

There are at least 6 old computer hard drives littering my basement and four or five old color monitors, too. Sometimes there has been a little glitch and it’s been moved aside. Most often there was a crash and I just ditched it in favor or a new faster better machine. Computers are practically becoming disposable, especially since they are dropping in price to around $1,000 for the mid range, better systems
.
The past few days we’ve been poking around the old computers and trying to decide if it is worth reformatting the entire hard drive and reloading the old original software on the ones worth salvaging or just tossing them into a recycling bin.

A few of them are giving me trouble rebooting and two are loading partially before locking up. That leads me to believe that we need to get into the system registry and work on it, or call in bigger guns to do what we can’t seem to master.

We tried a variety of internet resources. One place that I like is an encyclopedia of the top data formats. This site tracks the most searched file extensions and lists them in their searchable database, called “File Extension Library.” For example, there is a thorough description of the SYS files data extension, along with dat, doc, dll and other popular extensions.

Auto Lift From Best Buy Auto Equipment

Most people I know are getting excited about getting money back here real soon from having done the yearly chore of filing our tax returns. From what I hear is that a good amount of this money is going straight to credit card companies that must really rake it in and totally love this time of year when so many people are using their tax money to keep them all in business and in the red.

My brother-in-law just got his check and went immediately online to order the products that he has been anxious to get going so that he can start bringing in some more money through his “fix it shop” that he has built out back. It takes money to make money, there is no doubt about that. It will be great when he gets the auto lift that he ordered from best buy auto equipment. He has been on their mailing list for the last couple of years and has done a good amount of business with them and keeps coming back for more, so they must be doing something right. He isn’t known for being quiet and easy-going, actually he can be a real pain in the neck at times, but a good guy with a good heart that keeps my sister and their kids happy.

two post car lift

Once he gets this car lift delivered, installed and ready to go, I believe that he will start doing more side jobs that he has turned down until he gets this much-anticipated auto lift. I know that I’ll be turning to him for some work that he has been promising me from all the help I have provided for him during this whole process of getting his shop built and ready for business.

A Win/Win Situation Checking Out Diamond Blades With Dad

As my father ages it is becoming harder and harder to find and purchase gifts for him for all the numerous gift giving occasions that pop up all year-long. A gift card for one of his favorite restaurants is always a welcomed gift, since my mother really enjoys getting out of the house and having a nice meal that she didn’t have to shop for, prepare, serve and ultimately clean up after. But I think my mother enjoys it more than he does since he swears that his bride of over 45 years is still the best cook ever, one of the reasons that he decided to marry her. That along with the fact that when he met her mother he saw that she wasn’t over weight and as most people know you can get a pretty good idea of what a woman will look like in the future by looking at her mother.

Anyway, back to the subject of finding a good gift for my Dad. His birthday is in the middle of March, which is right around the corner and I don’t want to wait until the last minute. I do know that he has been looking at various diamond blades, but I’m just not sure exactly which type he needs and wants. Believe me, there is a huge variety of diamond blades that I have run across while looking online at some off the sites that I have run across. I am starting to think that a gift card would be in order, presented to him with the understanding that we will sit down together in front of the computer and find the best deal for the one(s) that he wants and needs and place the order together. Not that I don’t trust him to use the gift card in the way I want him to, heck he could use it for anything after it leaves my hands, that is totally up to him. But I would like to spend some good “quality time” with him looking around online, and I’m sure that I would learn a few things along the way. A win/win situation as far as I’m concerned.

UMT Marine

If I have the chance to travel to the DC area next week for an interview I hope to have a couple extra days to drive around the area and do some spring sightseeing. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is book a “boat and breakfast” package to sleep aboard one of the sailboats in the Annapolis Harbor. The Windward is a 74 foot sailing schooner that takes people on 2 hour tours during the day. On Saturday nights they allow up to four couples to book their special “boat and breakfast” package which includes a 2 hour sunset sail on the Chesapeake, docking in Annapolis for you to have dinner downtown, and then return to the ship around 11pm to sleep aboard the schooner in one of the 4 staterooms. In the morning you are served breakfast on deck and you have until 11:00 am to re pack your duffel bag and head out. It sounds like great fun, and with the right mix of other couples could be a magical evening for everyone.

There are three areas in Maryland that I love and would certainly consider living there if I had a good employment offer. Frederick, Baltimore, and Annapolis. To be honest, I love Annapolis, the state capital, and have spent dozens of weekends there on sailboats and in bed and breakfasts for summer weekends. I’m sure that UMT Marine, with their website of http://www.umtmarine.com does a lot of work for people and plenty of businesses in that area. They would expect nothing less than the best and UMT Marine is knows for their commitment to old world, custom crafted marine technology. You really should check out their website, it’s pretty impressive and full of interesting information in the manufacturing of Custom Marine equipment.

If I get the job offer I’m expecting, I won’t hesitate to call a broker to get started looking for a house. Spending some time tonight on various websites to get a feel for prime real estate in the Baltimore area and also checked out the Annapolis area so that when I have my job interview next week I’ll know what I can handle for housing and relocation expenses.

Preparing The Yard For Spring

I am going to head out to Home Depot and Lowe’s this morning and try to beat the crowds. I’m sure the place will be packed with people who just realized that Spring is really close at hand and their yards and gardens need some work to get ready for the spring, summer, and fall growing season. I’m sure the danger of frost is not gone yet, it is only the middle of February. I wouldn’t even think of planing anything as of yet, but there is a lot of work that needs to get done before even thinking of putting anything in the ground yet.

I have to buy some weed and seed, plus a spreader as mine has left my garage for some reason. I want to buy some bags of topsoil and spread it around the yard to fill in a few holes and trenches created by moles, digging dogs and water runoff. I need a new rake and some leather work gloves.I might splurge and buy a new chainsaw if they have something for a good price. And, of course, the seed packets are all out on the shelves that I will take a gander at. I think I will try to do some green beans and pumpkins this year, in addition to the green peppers and jalapeno that grew well last year.
