Jamming While Saving For Alesis Mixers

There’s a kid in our neighborhood that goes around and mows just about everyone’s yard for them. This kid works all the time. I thought he was saving for a car since he’s only 15 but I’m not so sure now. I was coming home from work last Friday and heard this awesome music coming from his house.

I thought he just had his stereo cranked up and honestly thought he was going to be in major trouble when his parents got home. How wrong I was! I went in my house, changed into my jeans and headed back out. As I passed his house again, the garage door was open this time and he and some friends were in there jamming.

This kid had a band and man they were pretty darn good. I pulled over to listen for a while but decided to get out and let the kids know how much I enjoyed their music. This kid had been working to get alesis mixers at Guitar Center. No wonder they sounded so good. One things for sure, if they keep working like they are at mowing yards and buying quality equipment, these kids will go far because they are just flat-out good.

Playsets and Good Weather

This weekend I am heading out-of-state to my kid sister’s house, which is just over the state line actually. But it is still taking me out of my home state and is usually a five and a 1/2 hour drive to get there. It is a trip that is long over due and I’m getting excited seeing her, her husband and their 3 sons.

If the weather is nice, and it is supposed to be a good one, I am sure we will be spending a good amount of time outside enjoying their spectacular backyard that they have worked so hard on since moving there 6 years. I’m sure the boys would rather be outside since we all have been cooped up all winter long. They have all ready been grilling and eating on the patio for the last couple of weeks. Her husband is a good cook, especially outside on the grill.

The playsets virginia beach have arrived that they ordered online so I’m sure I’ll be helping them get assembled and ready to use by the boys and their friends. So it will be a good productive visit and I’ll be properly fed and entertained. Let’s hope the weatherman’s forecast will be accurate and let the games begin.

Brother Is Still Shopping For The Best Stair Lift

I heard from my brother and his wife through an email that I received last night, I have cut and pasted the main part of the email below:

In an effort to get our house a bit more handicapped accessible, Luvie and I have been looking around at numerous stair lifts. Luvie has now found a company on-line by the name of AmeriGlide.com that has a very large selection of Ameriglide stair lifts, Vertical Lifts, Wheelchair Lifts, dumb-waiter and Elevators, which are things that we may have to consider at some point as well.

Luvie’s parents are still alive but aging quickly and their health has been deteriorating each year. We have decided that when they need to leave their home, which will most definitely happen at some point in the near future, that they will come and live with us. None of the other family members are set up or capable of such a drastic lifestyle change, what with different career demands and most still have little ones running around the house and attending schools.  So that leaves Luvie and I to come to the aid of these lovely and gentle senior citizens. The weather here in California is best suited for them anyway, our climate doesn’t change as drastically as most of the other states do and the sun is usually around to make people feel better, I have found.

So AmeriGlide seems to have the best variety of stair lifts and has a good general warranty of ten years for the drive-train, and five years for the parts, which is very reasonable for any stair lift, we are finding out. A stair lift is our main concern now because it would be very unsafe for these folks to be attempting to go up and down the several flights of stairs that our house currently has, and both of them are going to be needing something like this, a fall could be disaster when you are of their age group. These folks don’t mend as easy as they use to and a broken hip usually means that things will go down hill from there, and we don’t want to take any risks.

He Loved Cigars…

Sigmund Freud

1856-1939 – The Creator and Founder of Psychoanalysis – He was afraid of trains and hated music. But he loved cigars and smoked twenty or more a day. Once when angry with his parents, he walked into their room and urinated on the floor. He spent his 24th birthday in jail for being AWOL from his Austrian Army unit.

The reason I know this is that my grandfather was a great story-teller and always enjoyed a nice la flor dominicana cigar every now and then. This is a story that I had heard on numerous occasions while he was still alive. What I would give to hear him tell that story again.

Tomorrow is the 20th year anniversary of his passing and he is heavy on my mind these past couple of days. I think that I will buy myself a nice la flor dominicana cigar tomorrow in his memory.

Nitty Gritty PCs

There are at least 6 old computer hard drives littering my basement and four or five old color monitors, too. Sometimes there has been a little glitch and it’s been moved aside. Most often there was a crash and I just ditched it in favor or a new faster better machine. Computers are practically becoming disposable, especially since they are dropping in price to around $1,000 for the mid range, better systems
.
The past few days we’ve been poking around the old computers and trying to decide if it is worth reformatting the entire hard drive and reloading the old original software on the ones worth salvaging or just tossing them into a recycling bin.

A few of them are giving me trouble rebooting and two are loading partially before locking up. That leads me to believe that we need to get into the system registry and work on it, or call in bigger guns to do what we can’t seem to master.

We tried a variety of internet resources. One place that I like is an encyclopedia of the top data formats. This site tracks the most searched file extensions and lists them in their searchable database, called “File Extension Library.” For example, there is a thorough description of the SYS files data extension, along with dat, doc, dll and other popular extensions.
